MARK THE OCCASION: How to Celebrate in Quarantine

If you’ve been keeping up with my Instagram and newsletter, you’ll know every one in events is dealing with the major changes these days, putting our heads together to make dreams come true for clients, even in this time crisis. With the current lockdown order that has a finish line of “who knows when” - more and more occasions are happening at home.  Although we can’t party together in a traditional way - I’ve rounded up a few tips on how to throw the best version of a party during quarantine.

  1. Venue: Well, this one is a given, it's your home.  But you do want to take some time to select what room you want to host in and where you want to set up your phone, computer, ring light, or whatever you will be using for your call in.  You can even rearrange some furniture for optimal set-up.  Be sure to have a plug close by so you don’t run into any technical glitches.

  2. The Guest List: Like any good party, the guest list can make or break the event and is so important.  Try and make it a fun mix of people who get along well and already know one another’s banter so there isn't too much talking over each other.  Too many guests can get confusing on a call-in, so try and keep the number down.  A great way to let friends know is to send over an invite stating the dress code & pair it with a fun cocktail recipe so it creates a shared experience.  If your budget allows, ship a candle,  twinkle lights, and a mini table-scape in a ‘party box’ so it builds excitement and gives your guests something to prepare for.

  3. The Dress Code: You can go two opposite directions here - against or with the grain. Since everyone is embracing leisure wear during this time, you can make it a bit more themed by calling for festive pajama party attire.  This takes the pressure off but allows guests to tinker with their existing outfits. The other school of thought is: why not escape from the leisure suits we’ve all been sporting?  Break out something sparkly, a puff sleeve, anything bright and festive!

  4. The Decor: Surrounding yourself with festive things will definitely put you in a better mood.  Color also lifts your spirits -  reach for anything bold printed and bright.  Use a curtain or tablecloth as a backdrop for your set up.  Light a ton of candles to set some ambiance (and look more flattering on camera).

  5. The Menu: Keep it simple. I would stick to basics, like a signature cocktail and a few snacks that only have a handful of ingredients.  A classic Negroni paired with some cheese and crackers is a great option. I also love a spicy margarita paired with some chips and dip.

  6. The Music: Similar to lighting, music is essential to set the vibe. We are in luck right now, since all of the best DJs are currently hosting live sets and playlists through their Spotify.

And here are a few of my favorite Amazon finds to curate the vibes…
