Now that New York City has begun its reopening - intimate gatherings are happening! First, let's talk about the facts. We’ve just been in Phase 2, which allowed gatherings of up to 10 people. Officially as of today, we’re enter Phase 3, which will allow up to 25 - and shortly after, 50 people at the Phase 4 mark.

These next summer months will offer us up the perfect opportunity to host what I am calling a Micro-Event.  It's a chance to host in creative ways and really show off some fabulous details that might otherwise get overlooked at a larger-scale event due to budget or volume constraints. The guest list is obviously limited, so you really know your audience.  The great part about it is you can focus on your guests’ experience and really take it over the top.  These micro events are all about the bespoke, little details…

Put safety first.

Since safety is the most paramount priority, it's important to start there.  The safest place to host is an open, outdoor space where guests can still be somewhat distanced.  You should have a station set up with sanitizer and masks as guests arrive to make everyone feel comfortable.

Space out your seating.

Make sure that you have several smaller seating vignettes arranged around the area so people can really mingle and spread out comfortable.  Whether its mini-picnic set ups, small cocktail-style tables, or just room to roam - space is going to be key.

Get fancy with your cocktails.

For a small group, nothing will have to be pre-batched in a large amounts, so it gives you a chance to break out all the fancy items you may not be able to for a larger event. Use specialty glassware, get custom ice with flowers or a logo inside, and use all the gorgeous garnishes to add flair to your spirits. Pro tip - come up with flirty names for each cocktail at the bar.

Entertain.

A great party always has a few things going on at once.  Set up a couple of spaced out, interactive stations for guests to roam through.  Whether it's a braid bar for ladies to get a quick style, a make-your-own-bouquet set up, a popsicle station, or a cigar roller - keep your guests flowing and entertained.

Leave them with a lasting impression.

Have an artist create custom sketches of all your guests instead of the typical name place cards. This doubles as a fabulous take-home favor.

Customize it all.

From monogrammed glasses and embroidered linens, to cocktail napkins with your favorite cheeky sayings - it's your chance to really get playful with all of the elements.

Create a memorable look.

For intimate events, I find that using reflective surfaces like mirrors and glossy lacquer can really look super luxurious on a small scale.
